In collaboration with Offshore renewable wind companies and Fishtek Marine we have been doing long-term monitoring of seabird bycatch on the South coast on England. Remote electronic monitoring (REM) systems have allowed us to get comprehensive coverage of fishing effort for over two years on 44 vessels both inshore and offshore. As part of one of the largest REM studies on seabird bycatch in the UK. We have overseen bycatch mitigation devices and trialled there effectiveness in static gillnet fisheries. As well as long-term multi-year monitoring on offshore vessels tracking seasonality of bird bycatch.
